The exterior was pretry clean, and the interior was okay. The drivers seat belt was fraying a bit. I tried starting it but it wouldn’t turn over. The seller had to call her husband and ask him about it. The battery terminal was dirty. Hmmm...
There was condensation inside the back window and in one of the headlights. The trunk was a little moist. The mirror adjustment knob didn’t work.
The power steering pump was also going bad. At times I had to manhandle the steering wheel just to steer.
When I drove it, I found the clutch was having some issues. The whole car jerked when I changed gears.
Other than that, the engine was impossibly smooth. It made a nice sound too.
In the end, the car was just in too poor shape to consider. No Lexus for my driveway it seems.

How was the “Chinese buffet”?

Didn’t go. Wasn’t hungry.

I thought that was the only redeeming aspect you predicted if the checking out didn't work out.

Exactly what I figured, considering the price, location, description, etc.
Sad to say I might have been right about “her selling it for her husband.”
This is a tactic whereby the actual person you meet is able to (falsely) claim ignorance to all the faults a potential buyer finds, such and the power steering pump (common problem on this apparently) and so on.

Which “Chinese buffet” did you not go to? If it was the one in Dupont you missed out and you should regret your decision for the rest of days on the mortal coil.

Yep, the one in DuPont. My dad went there when he visited JBLM and insisted we go there. Unfortunately we weren’t hungry when we were finished seeing the Lexus.

Well she did tell us about the power steering pump, but that was it. She “didn’t know” how many miles were on the car when they got it, which I insisted on knowing, for sake of the timing belt.

Yeah it’s like an 1100 service too. That’s why most sc400 ads will refer to the belt service.
Good old craigslist.

$1500 is a generous offer, really.

It is really, really, really, good, especially on the weekend when they have crab legs and lobster. It is #2 on Mrs Blacktruck and I’s restaurant list after we move back.
BTW, I never knew SC400's came in manual. That’s pretty cool.

Yeah. I mean if the interior and exterior were immaculate, imo it would be worth the belt service. But not the belt sevice, pump, mirror motor, etc. for this particular specimen.

They don’t. I changed from D to D3. Even from reverse to drive the car was confused for a moment before jerking.

The mirror thing could be a blown fuse.

Ahhh, got ya. I was confused for a moment once before jerking... nevermind.
